Fast bowler Oshane Thomas and power hitter Shimron Hetmyer have been added back to West Indies’ lineup for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. Following their recovery from operations, fast bowler Jayden Seales and legspinner Yannick Cariah are now part of the 15-man team, and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has also returned following an injury.
Former leaders Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder were unavailable for selection, and injured all-arounder Keemo Paul was left off the roster. Hetmyer and Thomas haven’t played in an ODI for the West Indies in nearly two years, thus they’ve been absent from the team for some time. “Oshane and Shimron are welcomed back into the group. Both have experience competing well at the international level, and we think they will both fit in well with the team, according to head selector Desmond Haynes. “Oshane adds speed and has the ability to take wickets with the new ball. Shimron is a potential “finisher,” and his hitting style will be very helpful, especially in the middle of the innings.
In order to recover from the devastating loss of failing to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, West Indies will attempt to rebuild their 50-over game. The first two games of the series, which starts on July 27, will be contested at the Kensington Oval in Barbados before the sides travel to Trinidad for the series’ final one-day international on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
