Inzamam-ul-Haq, a former Pakistan captain and legendary batter, has been chosen as the national chief selector of the Pakistan men’s squad by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The 53-year-old, who previously held the position from 2016 to 2019, will be serving in it again. In addition to winning the Champions Trophy in 2017, Pakistan managed to rise to the top of the Test rankings during his administration.
Inzamam’s immediate focus will be on the next bilateral series against Afghanistan, which will start on August 22 and be followed by the Asia Cup. The unavoidable task of selecting Pakistan’s ODI World Cup team will follow. Unexpectedly, he also had control over choosing the team for the 2019 edition. Grant Bradburn, the head coach, and Mickey Arthur, the head of cricket operations, will also be on the selection committee, but it is unclear exactly what their responsibilities would be. The hiring of Inzamam comes as the PCB works to modernize the domestic cricket system. He and Mohammad Hafeez were just selected for the Cricket Technical Committee (CTC), which will be led by Misbah-ul-Haq.
