India’s three-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan will be captained by Rohit Sharma, the BCCI confirmed on Sunday, January 7. Along with Virat Kohli, who last played against England at the Adelaide Oval during the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal in Australia, Rohit is making his comeback in the shortest format.
It’s interesting to note that Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have been selected as India’s two wicketkeeping alternatives for this final Twenty20 International Series before the 2024 World Cup. The series doesn’t feature many of the top players, like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj, aside from Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, who are all recovering from injuries.
The team’s three pacers are Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar, while its four spin options are Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.
In Mohali, the three-match series is scheduled to begin on January 11.
The following players represent India: Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar. Rohit Sharma is the captain of the team.
