Virat Kohli not in the T20 World Cup plans

Virat Kohli has been India’s top player for the past fifteen years. He is predicted to eclipse the great Sachin Tendulkar in practically every cricket record. Virat Kohli proved his mettle in the ICC World Cup 2023, smashing a record 765 runs in the format, including three hundreds. The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is still determining Virat Kohli’s spot for the T20 World Cup 2024, slated for June of next year, according to a recent article published by the news outlet Dainik Jagran.

The BCCI officials met for five hours to discuss the arrangements for the T20 World Cup 2024, which is slated to take place in the United States and the West Indies. Team India captain Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid, and chairman of the selection panel Ajit Agarkar were there. The fact that Team India is playing relatively few Twenty20 matches in advance of the World Cup is one obvious issue that they faced. India will play three Twenty20 internationals (T20Is) against Afghanistan in India before beginning its South Africa series on December 10. Prominent athletes such as Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma will not be participating in the T20 series in South Africa.

The report also stated that Ishan Kishan is being considered by BCCI to replace Virat Kohli at number three. An official from the BCCI who was present at the meeting said Dainik Jagran that they are looking for a third-row attacker, and Ishan Kishan has demonstrated this ability on several occasions.

If Virat Kohli performs exceptionally well in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he will undoubtedly carve out a place for himself. The only issue is that, as the opening batsman for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), BCCI has made it clear that it will only keep Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal alongside captain Rohit Sharma.
